THEODORE ALARIBE BLOGS is a blog of 'strangeness' of sorts. It is a hub at which human ideas and societal phenomena are assessed in a not-very-usual language and manner. Visitors to this blog will find that they have arrived at a theater of HUMANITIES and allied matters. But try not to be too fast. Pause, as soon as you arrive; take a breath, and then proceed only slowly enough to be able to encounter the strange materials you might find. Welcome.

They do me wrong
Who say I come
No more!
.......Opportunity.......
Hi, folks. Be out for the best your world can offer you now.
It's your right. Let no one, nothing deprive you of it.
Hear The President of Nigeria announcing it We are independent Hear Nigeria’s governors on the screens: We are independent
Hear the flutes and harpsichords Of this nation’s orchestras Peeling forth the tone: We are independent!
Hear the wretched masses saying too We are independent! Hear the reverberations as they sing Across the flag of Nigeria Many are hungry, void of job Their future is rid of hope We are independent!
Hear the hungry parents telling children Nigeria is independent See their hungry children clapping hands Singing the tone in schools That we may hear and dance with them We are independent!
Hear the workers singing aloud We are independent Hear the pensioners yodeling We are independent Hear their Union’s chant of the song Along Nigeria’s pot-holed roads With empty pockets and haggard look We are independent!
Hear schoolchildren chorusing it We are independent Hear their flutes and marching drums Banging out the hymn In a march-past past Obasanjo: Left…right! Left…right! Aye-ez-z right…! Their schools are cults, teachers are idle We are independent!
Hear our policemen singing too We are independent In their wayward black or khaki brown Carrying their guns, their tools of terror Their eyes as red as blood Index finger clutching trigger Out-pockets bulging out Hol’it! Stop there! Open ya booth…! His mouth smells of beer His hand is searching your pocket His face black and hard – a type of igneous rock! We are independent!
Hear our politicians hap’ly yelling We’re independent Hear these fat people stamp their feet Klump, klump, klump Across the flag of Nigeria But their thugs are fattening Who are daily paid in dollars Who kill and maim to give him seat We are independent, Nigerians…!
Ha-ha-ha!

The President of Nigeria announcing it
We are independent
Hear Nigeria’s governors on the screens:
We are independent
Hear the flutes and harpsichords
Of this nation’s orchestras
Peeling forth the tone:
We are independent!
Hear the wretched masses saying too
We are independent!
Hear the reverberations as they sing
Across the flag of Nigeria
Many are hungry, void of job
Their future is rid of hope
We are independent!
Hear the hungry parents telling children
Nigeria is independent
See their hungry children clapping hands
Singing the tone in schools
That we may hear and dance with them
We are independent!
Hear the workers singing aloud
We are independent
Hear the pensioners yodeling
We are independent
Hear their Union’s chant of the song
Along Nigeria’s pot-holed roads
With empty pockets and haggard look
We are independent!
Hear schoolchildren chorusing it
We are independent
Hear their flutes and marching drums
Banging out the hymn
In a march-past past Obasanjo:
Left…right! Left…right! Aye-ez-z right…!
Their schools are cults, teachers are idle
We are independent!
Hear our policemen singing too
We are independent
In their wayward black or khaki brown
Carrying their guns, their tools of terror
Their eyes as red as blood
Index finger clutching trigger
Out-pockets bulging out
Hol’it! Stop there! Open ya booth…!
His mouth smells of beer
His hand is searching your pocket
His face black and hard – a type of igneous rock!
We are independent!
Hear our politicians hap’ly yelling
We’re independent
Hear these fat people stamp their feet
Klump, klump, klump
Across the flag of Nigeria
But their thugs are fattening
Who are daily paid in dollars
Who kill and maim to give him seat
We are independent, Nigerians…!
